Kate Maher is an assistant professor in the Department of British and American Studies, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Japan. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Leicester, UK, under the supervision of Dr. Jim King. Having worked in Japan teaching English for almost 14 years and completing her MA in English Education there, her main research interests are student silence, speaking-related language anxiety, and psychological aspects of language learning in the Japanese university foreign language classroom.
